Where to stay in Jacó: which part of the beach is right for you.

Jacó looks like one long beach on a map, but the stay experience changes block by block. Here's how we'd think about it if you were a friend asking.

Central Jacó — the walkable middle

This is where Diamante del Sol sits. You're on the busiest stretch of sand, but you're also within a few blocks of every restaurant, grocery store, surf school, ATM, and bar you'd want. Leave the car parked and walk. Best for first trips, families, and groups who want everyone happy: surfers and non-surfers, cooks and diners-out.

Playa Hermosa — south, quieter, sportier

Ten minutes south by car. Bigger waves, fewer people, a handful of good restaurants but nowhere near the density of central Jacó. Choose it if you're here to surf every day, or if you want a very quiet beach and don't mind driving to town for dinner.

The hillsides above town

The postcard views come from up here. The tradeoff is real: you drive to the beach, drive to dinner, drive to groceries. Great for a week where you plan to cook in and enjoy a private pool. Not great if you wanted to leave the rental car parked.

North of the river — Herradura & Los Sueños

Marina resort territory, gated, quieter, more corporate. You'll get concierge and a clubhouse but you'll also feel one step removed from the town itself. Fine for a golf-and-fish trip; probably not the flavor you came for.

Is Jacó Beach safe?
Central Jacó — where Diamante del Sol sits — is well-lit, walkable, and busy through the evening. Like any beach town, use standard travel sense: don't leave belongings unattended on the sand, and take a taxi late at night if you're a few blocks away. The building itself has 24-hour on-site security and gated access.
How far is Jacó from San José airport (SJO)?
About 90 minutes by car via Route 27 and the coastal highway. Roads are good. A private transfer is the easiest option; the concierge can book one, or you can rent a car at SJO.
Can you swim and surf at Jacó Beach?
Yes to both. Jacó has a long sand beach with consistent surf — beginner-friendly on the mellow days, sportier on the swells. Lifeguards work the central stretch. Ask a local before swimming during heavy surf; rip currents move fast.
Central Jacó vs Playa Hermosa vs the hillsides — where should I stay?
Central Jacó: walk to everything, most restaurants and nightlife, best for first-timers and families. Playa Hermosa (south of town): quieter, more surf-focused, needs a car. The hillsides: dramatic views, but you're driving down to the beach every day. If it's your first trip and you want to leave the car parked, stay central.
